C Ollaborative L Earning and D Esign in a Rchitecture , E Ngineering , a Nd C Onstruction

In the A/E/C industry there is a strong need for the protection of competitive capacity. The share of traditional A/E/C-tasks within the total construction cost of a project is continuously declining. On the other hand, the degree and the complexity of technical equipment installed in buildings are increasing dramatically. Additionally we have to consider the fact that the customers of A/E/C-businesses today are acting in a global market. In order for future architects and civil engineers to be able to cope with these changes, a modification of their education, in particular the use of communication and information technologies, is necessary. This paper will present experiences gained in an international, project-centered, collaborative teaching effort for architecture and civil engineering students. Furthermore, the authors would like to describe a method of defining and structuring curricula for globally distributed, interdisciplinary teaching.
